The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Hon, Ignatuis Baffour Awuah has donated 200 sets of brand-new hair dryers and Sewing machines to Hairdressers, tailors and dressmakers in Fiapre and Nsoatre in the Sunyani West Constituency.
The sets of Hair dryers and Sewing machines were presented by the MP and Prof Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund at a separate durbar on Sunday.
The M.P speaking after the presentation said the gesture was to empower and improve the livelihood of the artisans and translate in improved standard of living.
He said his outfit in collaboration with GIZ a German company will soon begin a 9 month intensive training for over 400 artisans in various vocation fields in the constituency and will be presented with learning materials and start up kits upon successful completion
Which is geared towards empowering the people in the area.
Hon Baffour Awuah disclosed that, the N.P.P government will not relent on its efforts to provide free skill, technical and vocational training to the youth, as it is the surest way of guaranteeing jobs for them.
He noted that, government is providing the avenue for artisans, master craftsmen, those within the informal sector, school leavers including school dropouts, to take advantage of this opportunity and prepare themselves for the world of work.
According to him, trends in the global labour market indicate that personnel with skills or vocation are on high demand therefore the government has also implemented a number of measures to facilitate the acquisition of employable skills for the youth.
Key amongst them is the introduction of free SHS education which secures access to minimum of senior high school education for all children with emphasis on TVET education to make them competitive on the global labour market as well as move all TVET institutions to the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, “he added”.
