Carlo Ancelotti SACKED by Napoli just hours after Champions League victory putting Arsenal and Everton on red alert

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Napoli on the same night he guided the Italian club to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The 60-year-old faced questions over his future before the 4-0 win over Genk on Tuesday night, which was staggeringly Napoli’s first victory in ten matches.

But it wasn’t enough to save his job following a dreadful start to the season which has the Blues seventh in Serie A.

A club statement read: “SSC Napoli has decided to revoke the role of first-team coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti.

“The rapport of friendship, admiration and reciprocal respect between the club, its President and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.”

It is understood former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is in line to take over.

Ancelotti’s departure opens the door to a potential return to the Premier League, eight years after he was sacked by Chelsea despite winning the title at Stamford Bridge in 2009/10.

Arsenal and Everton are both on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Unai Emery and Marco Silva respectively.

Both clubs will be on red alert now that such a high-profile manager has become available.

The former AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich boss remains one of the most successful managers in history, with three Champions League titles to his name.
