Airforce aircraft overruns apron in routine engine run


 Ghana Air Force aircraft CASA C295 with registration number GHF552 today, Wednesday, 22 January 2020 overrun the apron at the Airforce Base in Accra.

The incident occurred at about 1110 hours during a routine engine run.

“There was no casualty to any crew member and anybody on the ground. There were also no passengers onboard,” a statement signed by Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Col. E. Aggrey-Quashie said.

A preliminary investigation team has been constituted to come up with an initial report within 48 hours.

The manufacturers of the aircraft, Airbus, have also been notified of the incident are expected to fly in a team to join their Ghanaian counterparts for a thorough assessment of the aircraft damage.

The aircraft, according to the armed forces, is recoverable.

The CASA C295 aircraft, manufactured in November 2015 and delivered in February 2016, was due for mandatory check in November 2019.

The aircraft has been non-operational since October 2019.

GAF has assured the public and especially its clientele that the Ghana air force is still operational and its activities have not been affected by the incident.

The morale of the personnel is high and all are going about their normal activities the statement added.
