Preparations towards the funeral rites of the late ‘Omanhemaa’ (paramount Queen) of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Poduo II,is currently underway in Sunyani.
The funeral rites is set to go down at the forecourt of the new Palace and already chairs, canopies and spinning machine(Systems) have been mounted,when Metro 90.5FM’s Reporter Nana Antwi visited the Place.
The late ‘Omanhemaa’ (paramount Queen) of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Poduo II, funeral rites scheduled from the evening of Tuesday, February 25 to Sunday March 1, this year.
The entire Sunyani township is quiet and solemn as the cold embrace of the funeral rites of Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo II,while residents are in black and red as custom demands.
A lot of dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion, including The President,Former Presidents,Politicians,in-laws,family members, loved ones, friends and the sympathizing public.
The demise of the Queen-mother of Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo II was officially announced by the Sunyani Traditional Council on Friday 13th September 2019 at the old palace in Sunyani.
Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo II, the late Queen mother of Sunyani Traditional Area died at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani on the 1st August 2019.
Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo II who is a member of the Boahenkorkor Royal family in Sunyani was known in private life as Helena Akosua Yeboah.
She was born on the 24th of April 1955 at Sunyani and enstooled as the Queen-mother at age 18.
She attended Nyamaah School in Sunyani. She left behind Four (4) children, two boys and two girls. She reigned for 46 years.
Meanwhile,all basic schools in the Sunyani Municipality would be closed from Thursday February 27th, to Friday February 28, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed.
This implies that pupils and students in both public and private basic schools in the Municipality will not go to school.
According to the GES, the directive had become necessary because of the ‘Doteyie’ (pre-burial funeral) and interment rites of the late ‘Omanhemaa’ (paramount Queen) of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Poduo II, scheduled from the evening of Tuesday, February 25 to Sunday March 1, this year.
Mrs. Theresa Kyere Boakye, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, announced the directive when she presented some items to the Sunyani Traditional Council on Thursday in Sunyani, to support the ceremony.
The Council presided by Nana Asor Nkrawiri II, the Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of Sunyani has since the beginning of the year been receiving funeral donations, ranging from food items, varieties of drinks, cloths and undisclosed sums of monies from individuals, corporate institutions, private businesses, religious bodies and love ones.
Mrs. Boakye explained that the “holidays” would enable the school children to stay indoors, while the Council performs traditional and customary rites and cultural displays to give befitting burial to the late Queen.
She asked parents to control their children and monitor them from roaming around in order not to expose them to avoidable dangers.
