The historic streets of Cologne remain empty while churches across the country canceled all worship services due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Cologne, along with the capital, Berlin, are to close all bars, clubs, cinemas, theaters and concert halls with immediate effect as Germany ramps up its efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged people to reduce social contact, including children stopping visiting their grandparents.

The U.S. travel ban on most flights from Europe, a part of the U.S. strategy in preventing the spread of the deadly coronavirus, has gone into effect.

The 30-day ban blocks most foreign visitors from 28 countries in Europe, including Britain and Ireland.

All Americans returning from Europe will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival back in the U.S. to try to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
