Bono Regional Police Command re-arrest Notorious criminal who escaped from cell in Sunyani

The Bono Regional Police Command on Monday, April 13,2020, rearrested a 24 years old man, named Abdulai Karim, better known as J.J, who escaped from the Sunyani District Police Cells.


The suspect who had been on the police wanted list and was arrested on February 23rd, 2020, for a multiplicity of crimes he has involved in,managed to escape from police cell on Tuesday, March 31 after smacking one of the police officers on duty with the cell gate on Tuesday dawn.

According to Pulsenewsgh.com source, he was rearrested at Bourkina Fasso and brought to Sunyani.

The 24-year-old suspected murder, re-arrest comes after the Bono regional Police Command in line with police procedures charged police personnel who were on duty on the day of escape to produce the escapee within ten days.

The Bono Regional Police Command are yet to brief the media.

A 24 years old man, named Abdulai Karim,who was arrested in connection with a multiplicity of crimes he is suspected to have been involved in has escaped from the Sunyani District Police Cells,the regional Police command confirmed.

The suspect who had been on the police wanted list and was arrested on February 23rd, 2020 is on the run after smacking one of the police officers on duty with the cell gate Tuesday dawn.

Speaking to the Regional Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, he said one of the inmates around 11pm Monday requested for water and in an attempt by the officer to attend to him, Abdulai Karim alias JJ, hit the officer with the gate aiding him to flee the custody.

J.J is alleged to have raped more than 11 women, including a nun, female staff of Newmont Gold Corp, police and immigration officers. The suspect is also alleged to have been involved in a number of robbery cases in Sunyani and other communities.

Chief Inspector Oppong has however called for calm as the Police Officers on duty as at time of the escape of the suspect have been given a 10 day ultimatum to provide Abdulai Karim and called on the general public to help with any trace for his arrest.

The command is since urging the public to call 0242325357 and provide any information leading to his re-arrest.

The Bono Regional Police Command arrested a long-standing wanted armed robbery suspect, Abdulai Karim in Sunyani in the Bono Region. Karim, who is 24 years old and hails from Yawhima near Sunyani was arrested in connection with a multiplicity of crimes he is suspected to have been involved in.

These include Murder, Rape, Robbery and Stealing. According to the Bono Regional Police Commander, DCOP Godfred Owusu Boateng, the suspect who has been terrorizing residents in the Sunyani Municipality was arrested in his hideout in a hotel (name withheld) in Sunyani.

Briefing the media in Sunyani, the Bono Regional Police Commander (DCOP) Godfred Owusu Boateng said, on Sunday 23rd February 2020, they arrested Abdulai Karim also known as JJ who is suspected to has been attacking and robbing and in some cases raping his female victims in and around Sunyani since 2019.

DCOP Owusu Boateng said the suspect Abdulai Karim usually enters victim’s bedrooms through their windows, front doors or sometimes cuts power to his target houses before striking to rob and rape. He said the activities of Abdulai Karim was of great worry to the Bono Regional Security Council and the Regional police command which led to his arrest.

DCOP Owusu Boateng said the suspect was arrested in his hideout with an accomplice in an unnamed hotel in Sunyani.

A gun was seized from him and according to the Regional Commander, the suspect confessed to the crimes during interrogation. DCOP Boateng appealed to anyone who might have fallen victim to Karim to visit the Bono Regional Crime Office to assist in investigations. He also cautioned the public to be vigilant and avoid moving alone in the night.

DCOP Godfred Owusu Boateng also cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to cause any further distress to victims and their families. The suspected Abdulai Karim has since been arraigned before the district court “B” in Sunyani and has been remanded in police custody to assist in investigations.
