The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that the extension of the free electricity for lifeline customers in the face of the challenges and hardship brought on citizens by the coronavirus outbreak beginning today(Saturday), August 1, 2020.
It follows President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s announcement that the government will absorb the full bills of lifeline residential customers from July to December 2020.
This is part of the government’s efforts to minimise the effect of the outbreak of COVID-19 on the citizenry and the economy.
A statement issued by the ECG said the relief will end in January 2021.
According to the statement, customers on prepaid meters would be credited automatically with their free lifeline credits whereas those who are not on the prepaid meters would have to visit vending points to receive their free lifeline units each month.
