Demolition: Bayern Munich smash EIGHT past Barcelona as Catalans are knocked out of Champions League in humiliating rout

Bayern Munich battered Barcelona 8-2 on Friday night to dump them out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion.

The quarter-final got off to an incredibly fast start, with both teams making up for the fact that this season it is not a two-legged tie.

Thomas Muller struck first for the German champions.

Ivan Perisic made space on the left and pulled the ball back to the 30-year-old.

He played a one-two with Robert Lewandowski to create an opportunity which he then finished with aplomb after just four minutes.

Three minutes later though, Barca were level.

Bayern’s usually solid defence found themselves caught out as a ball was played through to Frenkie de Jong on the left wing.

His pull back targeted Luis Suarez in the middle but instead came to David Alaba, who remarkably launched a calamitous own goal past Manuel Neuer.

Barca then hit the post and had further chances to take the lead within the chaotic first ten minutes.

Thankfully for Alaba though, Perisic put Bayern in front again on 21 minutes,

His powerful strike was followed by Serge Gnaby six minutes later and Muller made it four just after the half-hour mark.

The score remained 4-1 at half-time, but Hansi Flick’s men were far from done.

In the second period, Luis Suarez pulled one back for Barca before Bayern picked up the pace again.

Joshua Kimmich made it 5-2 following some beautiful work from Alphonso Davies and then Robert Lewandowski got in on the action.

To add further insult to injury, Barca loanee Philippe Coutinho came on for the final ten minutes are scored twice against his parent club.

The final score read Barcelona 2-8 (EIGHT) Bayern Munich.
