The Deputy Minister for Aviation Hon. Yaw Afful led by Managing Director of Ghana Airport company limited as well as some executives of NPP Bono Region on Monday,30th November,2020 inspected ongoing works on the Sunyani Airport rehabilitation project.
The Sunyani Airport has been closed-down since 2015 due to problems on its runway and unavailability of an apron, among other reasons.
The airport dates back in 1942, when a communication outpost and aerodrome was built for the use of the Allied Forces.
Speaking to Journalists,the contractor working assured the people of Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions that the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation project would be re-opened by the end of 2020.
The Managing Director for the Airport Company Mr Yaw Kwakwa said when completed, the airport would improve the country’s operational capacity in the aviation industry and also increase passenger traffic, as the airport will be in a position to accommodate more aircraft.
He said the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will be ready to receive flights and accommodate the predicted increase in passenger turnout in the near future.
The Deputy Minister for Aviation and the Member of Parliament for Jaman-South Hon Yaw Afful on his part said government is committed to making the country an Aviation Hub within the Sub-Region and that the Sunyani Airport forms an integral part of Government’s vision to expand the frontiers of the Aviation industry in the country.
The Bono Regoonal Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) has expressed satisfaction at the progress of work on the redevelopment of the Sunyani Airport.
He has commended President Akufo-Addo for honouring his campaign promises and explained he was impressed with the level of work done so far and was hopeful that the contractors would be able to deliver on schedule.
He disclosed this when the Managing Director for Ghana Airport Company Mr Yaw Kwakwa together with the Deputy Aviation Minister Hon Yaw Afful paid a working visit to the site to inspect the progress of work.
Abronye said the Sunyani Airport project holds high promise for jobs, investment drive and a boost for the local economy.
