When the incident occurred, the 34-year-old Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain forward was ready to win the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time.

At the bash, the Barcelona icon was joined by his wife Antonela and sons Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro.

The family walked the red carpet together, dressed in the same suit as their father, and posed for the cameras.

Messi, on the other hand, was incensed when his boyhood sweetheart was surprisingly requested to leave his side and out of the lens’ focus.

A France Football director can be seen on footage released online telling Antonela to step aside.

The filmmaker looked to be looking for a photo of Messi and his children in matching outfits.

Antonela first followed the instructions and walked away, but the enraged forward immediately commanded her to return to his side before any more images were taken.

Antonella appeared unfazed by the incident, as she was seen clutching her husband’s trophy alongside the partners of fellow PSG stars Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Sergio Rico, and Leandro Paredes after the ceremony.

Messi’s antics, though, had fans talking on Twitter, with many praising him.

“Never mess with the king’s wife,” one wrote.

“She supported him when he had nothing, and he made sure she was there when he had everything,” another added. I’m well aware of his presence.”

“Messi genuinely sincerely loves his wife,” a another supporter said. That is something I admire.”

Messi and Antonella were introduced by her cousin Lucas Scaglia – who was also at Newell’s Old Boys – at the age of nine.

She remained by his side when he moved from South America to Barcelona and has been with him for all of his Ballon d’Ors.

And last summer her and the boys moved with him from Catalonia to the French capital for his latest venture in Ligue 1.
