At a time when Ghana’s tourism industry is suffering from a series of setbacks as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, also known as ‘Abeiku Santana,’ is at the forefront of reigniting and optimizing Ghana’s tourism potentials through commendable media sensitization campaigns.
His multiple sensitizations and diversified tourism-related tactics to help stimulate growth in the tourism sector have earned him the Tourism Oriented Media Personality award at the 2020 National Tourism Awards from the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
With over two decades of dedicated service in the tourism industry, Abeiku Santana, who holds a Master’s Degree in Tourism Management from the University of Cape Coast and is also the Chief Executive Officer of Kaya Tours and Bays Lodge, is one of the most highly respected practitioners in the Hospitality and Travel & Tour Industry, earning the nickname “Mr. Tourism on Air.”
Abeiku Santana’s achievements in the Ghanaian tourism sector are unrivaled, having devised numerous strategies to boost local tourism, such as the “Taxi Driver Tourism” initiative, as well as receiving thousands of clients from all over the world, earning him a milestone achievement after being named in the Top 100 West African Personalities in Tourism.
“You have distinguished yourself as a broadcast journalist,” his citation states. Because of the educational and entertaining substance of your program, you are the most listened to on radio in the afternoon…
“As a Broadcast Journalist, you have tourism-related enterprises, so you’re living the walk.” It’s no surprise that you’re known as Mr. Tourism on Air and have been featured. The Ghana Tourism Authority presents you with the Tourism Oriented Media Personality Award in recognition of your efforts.”
Abeiku Santana, who was named the 2021 Radio and Television Personality of the Year, was overjoyed with his latest honor, especially given his unwavering support for the tourism industry in recent years.
“The road to success is always difficult, and those who are always willing to take risks and have bravery triumph.” I praise the Almighty Jehovah God for providing me with the strength and energy to pursue my passions. My wife and family have been supportive of my new love and passion, and I’d want to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism Arts & Culture, through the Ghana Tourism Authority, for providing a level playing field for the private sector.
“I started promoting internal tourism in 2006, but obtaining this distinction today means a great deal to me.” “Given the enormous number of people engaged in the tourism business, I decided to embark into this endeavor to create jobs for the youth while also showcasing Ghana to visitors,” Abeiku Santana stated in his acceptance speech.
The astute broadcaster, on the other hand, encouraged the government to lower hotel tariffs, which have made the industry prohibitively expensive, particularly for travelers who are unable to see Ghana’s many unique tourist attractions.
In 2020, Abeiku Santana received a special recognition award as the Exclusive Man of the Year for his efforts in tourist marketing and promotion, which he promoted through his platform.
