After returning to the club amid much excitement, the Portuguese made his first start of the season against Newcastle on September 11 and scored twice.

His first goal was a tap-in, but the 36-year-old showed he can still outrun players by sprinting into the area and slotting home.

After United had gone behind at West Ham, Ronaldo leveled the game, swinging the tide back in his side’s favor before Jesse Lingard scored a late victory.

Despite the fact that he was unable to prevent United’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at the end of September, he was assessed to have done enough to win the award.

While Ronaldo’s European efforts were not evaluated for the Premier League title, he did score in a 2-1 defeat away at Young Boys before scoring a thrilling winner at home against Villarreal in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the official Premier League Player of the Month title for the first time since March 2008, marking the biggest gap between winners in the competition’s history.
Only Sergio Aguero (7), Steven Gerrard (6), and Harry Kane (all 6) have won it more than Ronaldo (5)
