Decisions are taken on various reasons – Carrick on benching Ronaldo at Stamford Bridge

Carrick was benched for only his second game in charge since taking over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, resulting in a 1-1 tie with the Premier League leaders.

Ronaldo entered the game in the 64th minute but failed to make an impact, rushing down the tunnel at full-time after the briefest of handshakes with his manager.

Carrick, on the other hand, thought the situation had been exaggerated ahead of his third game against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

‘I think those kinds of things get blown up more when you’re outside the squad and the club,’ he remarked.

‘Decisions are taken for a variety of reasons, some of which receive more attention than others. It didn’t seem like a big deal to me. We all got along swimmingly, the game went well to a point, but it wasn’t perfect.
