EndSars: Police Release Some Arrested Protesters

Following the arrest of protesters during the EndSars protest which held in Lagos today, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has ordered the release of those who were arrested.

Nigerians trooped out in masses today to protest the killing of innocent protesters who died on 20th of October 2020, during the EndSars protest.Recall that on October 20th, 2020, Nigerians had trooped out in protest against decades of brutality and menace perpetrated by the Nigerian Police and Special Anti-robberry Squad, (SARs), an arm of the police.The innocent protesters were reportedly killed by armed men of the Nigerian army at Lekki Toll Gate in enforcement of a curfew in state.

Today marked one year of the massacre and Nigerians trooped out today to protest the death of the innocent persons killed.The officials of the Nigerian Police however arrested some of the protesters today and locked them up in their vans. However at around 12:00pm, theLagos Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, had a meeting with some of his men and some of the protesters were released today.

Before their release our reporter gathered that the CP walked towards the police van and asked the arrested protesters to identify themselves.Those who were are able to identify themselves were released while those who were not able to identify themselves were not released.Among those released are journalists, protesters and passers-by.

He however promised to investigate those who are yet to be released to determine whether they are criminals.”We will investigate those still locked up in the van. We are taking them to the police station. Once we ascertain that they are harmless, we let them go,” Odumosu said
