Yeast infection in the vagina is an infection caused by yeast, a type of fungus and it is commonly called yeast vaginitis or candida vaginitis. This infection can live in a woman without showing any symptoms. It can be transferred through sexual activity but it is not considered as a sexually transmitted disease becase it can also affect women who are not sexually active. Once you acquire this infection it is important to visit a doctor immediately to treat it. Below are some symptoms of yeast infection in women.

1. Thick vaginal discharge that is odourless and whitish in colour.

2. Severe itching in the vagina

3. Discomfort during sexual activity

4. Burning sensation or pain while urinating.

5. Redness, soreness in the vagina

6. Vaginal swelling.

If you notice any of these symptoms, you should immediately see a doctor for proper treatment.

Some common causes of yeast infection are:- hormonal imbalance, douching, weakened immune system, diabetes and sexual contact.

Treatment of yeast infection at home. To treat this infection at home, you should take antifungal drugs such as miconazole and terconazol for three to seven days. These drugs usually come in the form of creams. Also,it can be treated by taking an oral medication. However, if the symptoms are very severe it is advisable to visit a doctor for proper treatment.
