Mr Kyei Baffour, a 39-year-old man who pretended to be a lawyer, was detained and charged with deception of a public officer.
On the orders of magistrate Vera Victoria Akonu, the suspect was apprehended while representing his client in a murder case at the Nyinahin District Court in the Ashanti Region.
The magistrate stated that she had checked the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and the General Legal Council (GLC) and discovered that the suspect had not been admitted to the bar.
Even though he has some basic knowledge in law after completing a professional legal school in California, the suspect admitted to not being a lawyer in front of her court.
He claimed to have passed the Ghanaian law entrance examination but had to drop out owing to personal circumstances.
The suspect has been detained until the outcome of the inquiry.
He will be brought before the Circuit Court in Nkawie, according to the police.
