Ini Edo, a beautiful Nollywood actress, has given birth to her first child, a baby girl. The child was born to the 39-year-old through a surrogate.
“Yes, I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy,” she confirmed in an interview with blogger Stella Dimokokorkus. Because the eggs are mine, she is genetically my blood. I took this road to realize my ambition of becoming a mother. I still have a lot of eggs saved in case I decide to undergo surrogacy again or carry my baby myself.”
“I opted for a donor for myself and my baby’s peace of mind,” she said of the baby’s father. Another reason I chose a donor is that it terrifies me so much when I see public forums full of banter and disagreements between a mother and a father over a baby, or when I see the male demanding on his child if things don’t work out between both parties. It’s the fear of what that would imply for the child that drives me. Marriage comes first, followed by children in a perfect world, but we don’t live in one.
I am not someone who is easily swayed by circumstances. I don’t regret making lemonades out of lemons thrown my way. Life is too short and precious to be aiming for perfection. I am fully capable of caring for my own child in the same way that I have cared for myself. I desired a child and am grateful to God for surrogacy and donor possibilities.
It’s an incredible sensation and experience, and as I watch my daughter develop, I’m in wonder of the miracles that God has bestowed upon me, and I’m very grateful to be my daughter’s mother.”
In 2008, the actress married Philip Ehiagwina, an American businessman. Years ago, the couple split up without having a kid.
