Mason Mount’s hat-trick inspired Thomas Tuchel’s team to a crushing 7-0 victory over bottom-placed Norwich at Stamford Bridge, ensuring Chelsea’s place at the top of the Premier League for at least another week.
The difference in class between the two teams was evident from the first whistle, as Chelsea stormed out of the blocks to take an early lead through Mount (8).
The Blues’ defense was little tested, and the goals kept coming at the other end, as Callum Hudson-Odoi (18) and Reece James (42) put them up to three goals at the interval.
Norwich’s difficulties continued after the interval, with Ben Chilwell (57) continuing his great scoring run before an own goal (62) by Max Aarons completing a miserable afternoon for Daniel Farke’s side, who also had Ben Gibson sent off in the second half (65).
Mount (85) added his second goal of the game after Tim Krul was adjudged to have come off his line before making the original save, before completing his hat-trick (90+1).
Norwich’s top-flight woes persist in the meanwhile. They are still in the Premier League’s relegation zone following a humiliating day in west London, and their hunt for their first victory of the season continues.
