On Monday, November 22nd, 2021, the National Lottery Authority’s Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, and several top management members of the National Lottery Authority, along with the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, officially announced the collaboration agreement with the Kumasi-based club.
The Nanayaw Amponsah-led Kotoko Management made a cooperation proposal to the NLA in August this year, following the appointment of Mr. Samuel Awuku as Director General.
Mr. Goodfellow Dei Ofei, Public Affairs Manager at the NLA, explained at the launch, “After our initial assessment, we decided a substantial cooperation with Kotoko makes economic sense, thus Mr. Awuku proceeded to the board to seek approval for the deal.”
“Nanayaw Amponsah and his management were the first to provide a working plan to the new Director-General NLA after my boss was appointed.”
“I am happy that the NLA, as it approaches its 60th anniversary next year, has partnered with a club with the pedigree of Kumasi Asante Kotoko to introduce another innovation in the lottery and football circles as it sought to enter the digital space to reward the supporters and well-meaning Ghanaians,” Mr Awuku said at a brief ceremony held at the Golden Tulip Hotel Kumasi to unveil the Ghs 1 million sponsorship and the launch of the atena game. I thank the club’s Life Patron, Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, as well as the club’s Board and Management, for this fantastic relationship, and I encourage the club’s fans to support the Atena Game in order to generate income for the club.”
In his remarks, Nanayaw Amponsah, CEO of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, thanked the Director-General and management of the NLA for this partnership and asked the club’s fans to become NLA ambassadors and patronize the Authority’s products so that the Authority’s management can see the benefits of the partnership.
The NLA also utilized the event to debut the Atena, a new game they’ve developed.
Mr Bernard Buamah, Head of Marketing and Caritas Platform of the National Lottery Authority, explained the mechanics of the Atena Game, saying, “We should all help bring back the love of Ghana football by supporting this novelty.” To enter the game, phone *780# and follow the steps to guess 5 jersey numbers from the team to be drawn.
The cost of entry was Ghs 2.00, and there were no limits on how many times one may play. The possibility for NLA’s typical lottery players to play this game for Ghs 1.00 by entering their serial numbers on their lotto coupons before playing their preferred Jersey numbers was a fascinating twist to this game. Cash, electrical gadgets, fuel coupons, replica jerseys, match tickets, and grand prizes of a salon automobile and an all-expenses-paid trip to Dubai” were among the rewards available in this game.
