Dusan Tadic of Ajax has surpassed Lionel Messi’s record of most assists in a calendar year.
When Messi was playing for Barcelona in 2011, he set a record of 36 assists, which he held for a decade.
However, Tadic has already eclipsed that, according to the International Champions Cup, with the Serbian international recording 37 assists this season.
Ajax still has two games left in 2021, one away to Feyenoord and the other at home to Fortuna Sittard, so Tadic might stretch his record even further.
Messi set the record while playing for Barcelona, widely considered as one of the best teams in history. Messi and Barcelona won the Champions League and LaLiga in 2011.
Tadic, who formerly played for Southampton, had a fantastic year in 2021, helping Ajax win the double and being named Dutch Footballer of the Year.
Despite his age, Tadic shows no signs of slowing down, having already contributed eleven assists in the Eredivisie this season.
Tadic, in addition to constantly creating opportunities for his teammates, is also a goal threat, as evidenced by his six league goals this season.
This season, Ajax will be fighting for the Eredivisie title, as they are currently one point behind leaders PSV.
