The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has directed the Ghana Police Service to begin investigations into circumstances that led to two vehicles possessing the same number plate.
The request by the DVLA comes on the back of reports that a registered black Range Rover gifted to popular presenter and a manager at Accra based GH One TV, Nana Aba Anamoah had the same number plate as that of a Nissan Rogue vehicle.
Nana Aba Anamoah on her birthday was gifted with a Range Rover with registration number GR 2050-20 but it sparked controversies after news broke that the number plate belonged to a Nissan Rogue vehicle which was registered on January 6, 2020.
But the Deputy Chief Executive of DVLA, Prince Opoku Edusei in an exclusive interview with ABC News disclosed that the black Range Rover gifted to the Acting General Manager of GHOne TV, Nana Aba Anamoah, is not registered in their system.
According to him, it is illegal for one number to be assigned to two different vehicles hence the decision to rope in the Police Service to investigate and possibly, arrest the perpetrator(s) of such an action.
He further noted that the Authority will soon issue an official statement to address the issue.
“The Range Rover is not registered. We don’t have such in our system. We’ve requested the police to go into it. We have done our own in house investigations and we’ve realised that that is not legally licensed vehicle so we’ve asked for further investigations and I’m sure that another statement will come out to that effect to know what the DVLA is doing about it,” DVLA’s Deputy Chief Executive said.
The Deputy DVLA boss therefore advised the ace broadcast journalist to visit their office to register the vehicle or face legal actions.
